I just got a leather jacket for fall/winter and I’m wondering how could I make it work appropriate without looking like a student? I’m a TA for school and I’m in my early 20’s. Thanks!

Steph: You’ll want it to be a little more modern & less disheveled for the workplace (especially if you’re a TA & want to distinguish yourself) so hopefully your leather jacket is a little more fitted (and a little less bomber).  Leather jackets aren’t like sweatshirts, so you don’t have to worry too much about looking TOO casual so long as the rest of your outfit is put together.  When I think of who wears leather jackets right, I think of Kate Moss & Nicole Richie…they pair them up nicely to look casual yet put together.  So I really like the look of a simple loose top, skinny jeans & heels.  You could also wear the jacket with a printed dress & tights or even a floral dress to “femme it up.  The nice thing about leather jackets is that if it’s fitted, you can wear loose-fitting items under, so long as everything else is in proportion (e.g. don’t wear baggy jeans…too Harley).

Tramanh:  I think leather jackets are pretty classic.  I don’t think adding a jacket really makes anything more “casual” as much as it adds a more masculine or “edgy” feel.  Important thing is to wear something fitted so you don’t look like you’re a kid wearing your dad’s jacket.

As far as making it work appropriate and non-student looking, just wear something nicer underneath (i.e., not just a tshirt).  Wear it with a feminine blouse.
